Spurs Fined $250,000 for sitting Stars

David Stern is back at it again.

I have to admit that I truly thought he was bluffing, however, Stern fined the Spurs a quarter of a million dollars for not playing four players on their team. The game was nationally televised and highly anticipated, yet Spurs coach Gregg Popovich believed his older players could use the rest.

I understand his argument about the fans paying a lot of money to come support the league and their teams, but $250,000 is absolutely absurd. Stern completely crossed the line by essentially telling the Spurs who must play for their team and when. This is actually something the team has done for the past several seasons. With aging stars such as Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, they play it safe by giving them a break throughout the tumultuous 82 game season.

I don’t see this issue ever popping up in the future because there are simply too many ways for teams to wiggle their way through loopholes such as faking an injury. Stern has done a lot of good for the NBA, but his constant power hungry tactics are really just getting old now. Change will be for the better once he retires next season.
